use upon a useFormerly, a right recognized by the Chancery after the Statute of Uses 1535 (see *use). In a situation in which A held property to the use of (i.e. for the benefit of) B, who held to the use of C, the Statute made B the legal owner but did not affect the second use to C (the use upon a use), who remained entitled to the benefit. The second use eventually developed into the *trust. |
